News from Global Polyurethane Network on March 5: Global chemical giant BASF Recently launched a new adhesive - Acrodur Power 2750 X.
This product is specifically designed for the production of natural fiber composites for automotive lightweight applications, such as automotive interior door panels or shelving. AcrodurPower 2750 X imparts high mechanical stability to natural fiber composites. At the same time, the product has thermoplastic processability, which allows the application of up to 75% natural fibers in lightweight parts compared to traditional polypropylene thermoplastic adhesives.
According to Claus Dallner, director of BASF's fiber bonding market and dispersion business, the use of Acrodur Power 2750 X can make natural fiber parts 40% lighter than ordinary plastic products, thus reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions for cars.
Acrodur Power 2750 X water-based adhesive is an effective replacement for formaldehyde based reactive resins and it does not release any organic substances either during processing or as part of the final product. The user does not need to deal with air emissions, which brings greater safety to the user. In addition, the product can effectively improve the air quality in the car.
Jurgen Pfister, Vice President of BASF's Adhesives and Fiber Bonding Dispersions Business Europe, said: "With the launch of the new product Acrodur Power 2750 X, BASF has brought innovative environmental protection solutions to the automotive and component supply industries, which can effectively protect resources and reduce the mass and cost of natural fiber parts.”
The low-emission Acrodur binder is primarily used to reinforce natural fiber composites before they are processed into shaped parts. They are also used in high-quality lightweight applications in the furniture and automotive industries. Thanks to their 3D moldability, the look and feel of natural fibers make parts more attractive.
